Who we are
After completing the Carpenter’s Apprenticeship Program in 1976, Rick Green moved to Billings, Montana, and soon began building homes in the area. After several years of a successful partnership, building custom residential and light commercial projects, he moved back to his roots in Northern California. The company was given the name Benchmark Development in 1983, and has operated continuously since that time. With a strong background in stucco and plastering dating back to the 1960’s, Russ Tucker brings knowledge and expertise in one of the most challenging aspects of straw bale construction. A love for, as well as his experience in art makes Russ a natural for designing and building both straw bale and rammed earth projects.
Good For The Environment
Traditionally, the straw used for building would have been burned or returned to the ground, where most of it would be blown off as CO2. Straw bale construction sequesters large amount of carbon in the form of straw and wood. There are many more reasons Rammed Earth and Straw Bale construction are good for the environement
